On July 11, 2024, Precious Plastic Bangkok, in collaboration with the Love Wildlife Foundation, organized an “Eco-Community Based Learning” event for Bamrung Islam Wittaya School as part of their Urban Wildlife curriculum. The event featured activities such as teaching students about plastic pollution and everyday practices, and demonstrating how to use plastic recycling machines to create plant pots. This was the first time we introduced the hand-cranked plastic melting machine to the students!
In the afternoon, we took the children to the Wat Chak Daeng community, PPB community network to learn about local waste processing. They explored basic waste segregation, visited the waste sorting area at the temple, learned about textile recycling from plastic bottles, and toured various waste management facilities, including those for plastic waste, milk carton roofing, and food waste.
Wat Chak Daeng also hosted a creative activity where the children painted plant pots made from foam waste, which they took home. The day was both educational and enjoyable. On Thursday, August 1, the students presented what they had learned from the Wat Chak Daeng activities and discussed how they could apply this knowledge in their daily lives and communities. This experience also prepared them for future project presentations.
Precious Plastic Bangkok hopes this event will be a positive starting point for changing students' attitudes and practices regarding waste management. We aim to inspire them to use the knowledge and experiences they gained in their everyday lives and communities. Waste won’t be waste anymore if we learn to manage and use it creatively.
